Chance often leads to
requests for equipment. One such case is for
computers to be installed in a rehabilitation center for victims of
landmines in the Saharawi refugee camps in south-western Algeria. These
people have been physically maimed by the landmines that have been
planted along the "berm" (a sand wall) that runs the length of Western
Sahara, the largest modern minefield in the world. To safeguard the
folklore of their people, the elders in the centre are at present
dictating their reminiscences to others, who are taking them down in
longhand. Saharawis with a mix of disabilities (loss of limbs,
blindness, etc.) are partaking in this exercise. For ease of
dissemination, they have asked for computers. We are pleased to be able
to assist.
